Linda Loudermilk

I have been working at fashion shows for about 3 years now, and occasionally I will work one that is really cool, or horrific, or notable in some way. Linda Loudermilk's show last night was one of those shows that fell under the "notable" category. OK, I do have to admit that I am a hippie at heart, so to work a show who's designer is known as "one of TreeHugger's Best of Sustainable Designers" makes me kinda giddy. An excerpt from a recent collection/show states that Ms. Loudermilk : "uses a corn-based fiber called Ingeo from Italy and sasawashi, a Japanese leaf that has antibacterial properties, in addition to bamboo and organic cotton blended with one percent spandex. Treatments, too, were developed to be environmentally sustainable. The washhouse recycles its water; sandblasting is done by hand, and washing machines use ozone to oxidize jeans for a sun-baked look."

Pretty sweet when most of the industry cares more about their recent collections impact on yours and their wallet rather than their products impact on the environment. (harsh criticism, but kinda true, no?)

Ms. Loudermilk seemed like an eclectic lady who has seen hard times, or maybe just a hard past couple weeks cramming for her show. A show that turned out to be an amazing array of beautifully constructed avant-garde gowns, men's wear and accessories to boot. She had punk rock hair with feather attachements that seemed more Cherokee than Charo's boa. She had rock solid arms, like she spends time in the gym or spent hours physically making all the pieces in this funky collection. And she started her show by banging on a gong, so loudly in fact, that it startled all the models waiting "patiently" for their debut. She seems like someone you would want to be in Mexico with, sipping Tequila and swapping life stories with.

Great Show! Notable Show!

A little side note, the bathroom at the BP Helio Gas Station - corner of West Olympic and South Robertson Blvd. in Beverly Hills - is super huge and super rad! I thought I was at The Standard Hotel when I went into this thing, not at a eco-friendly gas station! Yes, the venue was held at a Gas Station! Pretty LA- coolness for ya.
